TSI Employee Spotlight: Joseph Gutto
Joe Gutto is TSI’s Network and Cloud Services Manager/Azure Architect and is our newest addition to the team! With over 26 years of experience in the IT sector and a career of system administration to leading quality assurance and cloud infrastructure projects, Joe is already making waves through the cybersecurity field, and we’re thrilled to feature him in this month’s employee spotlight.
1. Tell us what inspired you to get into the IT/cyber-security industry?
My journey began with a fascination for how integrated systems, networks, and applications function together to solve complex challenges. Over two decades ago, I started in web hosting and server administration, and the constant evolution of technology—especially the shift toward cloud-native environments and the critical need for robust security postures—has kept me driven to grow as a technology leader.
2. Describe yourself in three words
- Strategic: I focus on technical roadmaps and architectural schemes.
- Automated: I have a strong passion for streamlining operations via tools like Terraform and Ansible.
- Leader: I enjoy contributing to project success in a leadership capacity and managing cross-functional teams.
3. How do you gauge success? What is your favorite part of working within the SMB space?
I gauge success through the delivery of high-availability, secure environments and the achievement of rigorous technical milestones, such as my recent ConnectWise certifications in project and service management. My favorite part of working in the SMB space is the opportunity to implement creative, timely solutions that directly impact mission-critical challenges for growing organizations.
4. What are some of your hobbies outside of work?
- Cooking: I enjoy experimenting with recipes, particularly barbecue chicken and Mexican-style quesadillas.
- Home Automation: I like integrating and controlling smart home devices, such as my robot vacuum, to improve efficiency at home.
- Tech Personalization: I spend time exploring the latest capabilities of mobile technology and AI assistants.
5. What’s your favorite food?
A well-prepared barbecue chicken or a classic quesadilla with salsa and sour cream are my go-to favorites. I also enjoy a hearty vegetable soup.
6. What is your favorite quote?
“Efficiency is doing things right; effectiveness is doing the right things.” – Peter Drucker
This quote resonates with my professional focus on automation and architectural integrity. It’s not just about building a system; it’s about ensuring that the system serves the long-term strategic goals of the business.
7. What celebrity or historical figure – past or present – would you like to meet over a cup of coffee and why?
I would love to sit down with Satya Nadella. As an Azure Architect, I’ve spent a significant portion of my career working within the Microsoft ecosystem. I would be fascinated to discuss his perspective on the future of cloud computing and the integration of AI into enterprise infrastructure.
8. What is something most people don’t know about you?
I am an honorable veteran of the United States Army.
9. What are your goals for the future, both personally and professionally?
Professionally, I aim to continue refining my expertise as an Azure Architect and technology leader, contributing to the success of mission-critical projects at TSI. Personally, I am excited about continuing to build a life with my wife and kids in Saratoga Springs.
