Brittany McCarthy is TSI’s Procurement & Purchasing Specialist and has been an integral part of our team for the last 13 years. She’s a life-long New Englander who currently lives in a tiny mil town with her partner, their four-year-old son, and their rescue dog, Kirby. We’re thrilled to be featuring Brittany for June’s Employee Spotlight!
1. Tell us what inspired you to get into the IT/cyber-security industry?
It was actually not intentional. However, I am very glad I ended up in this industry. I’ve learned so much about technology and cyber-security that I would never have known otherwise, and the knowledge has been useful both inside and outside of my job.
2. Describe yourself in three words
- Curious
- Empathetic
- Artistic
3. How do you gauge success? What is your favorite part of working within the SMB space?
For me success is two-fold. If at the end of the day, I have both: aided my clients in achieving their support/hardware needs, and also challenged or improved my own knowledge and processes- that is a successful day.
4. What are some of your hobbies outside of work?
I am a bit of a hobby collector- I like to try new things, and once I’ve mastered it, I move onto something else. Some of my favorites are crocheting, embroidery, and general DIY projects. Most recently trying out watercolor painting. I also love to read books and watch movies, and have extensive collections of both.
5. What’s your favorite food?
Steak. A medium-rare ribeye to be specific.
6. What is your favorite quote?
“Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.”
I think it’s a really beautiful sentiment- worth remembering- but also really easy to forget in the stress and minutiae of everyday life.
7. What celebrity or historical figure – past or present – would you like to meet over a cup of coffee and why?
Probably either Stephen King or Tom Waits. Both are just incredibly interesting people and insanely talented storytellers in their own right.
8. What is something most people don’t know about you?
I’m incredibly sensitive.
9. What are your goals for the future, both personally and professionally?
My goals are similar across all facets of my life: never stop learning, approach situations with open-mindedness and empathy, and strive to live a life of authenticity that I – and the people who love me- can be proud of.
